Dear companies asking candidates to do this much work before even having a conversation with them...

I'm not sure what you are thinking:

• Do you believe that because it's a tough job market, it's acceptable to take advantage of it?
• Do you think candidates will put in so much effort without knowing more about the company and the position?
• Do you think candidates are not drawing any conclusions about your organizational culture from this process?

Whatever it is you are thinking, please reconsider; it's disrespectful to candidates and undermines your employer's brand.
